T&T has tested eight samples for the monkeypox disease and according to the Minister of Health, they all returned a negative result.
The revelation was made at Wednesday’s Ministry of Health virtual press conference.
Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh said they were tested locally and there are no samples pending testing.

He also indicated that while T&T has put forth a request for 2,000 doses of vaccines against the disease through the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO), there is no final word yet on when they will be provided or at what cost.
He reiterated his call for countries to make the vaccines available to smaller ones.
He said the ministry does not intend to vaccinate the entire population with the doses but, instead, will inoculate primary contacts of confirmed monkeypox cases.
With just about seven confirmed cases of the disease in the region, Deyalsingh said there is no current need to vaccinate the masses
